Q. How long has 98 Fish been open?

A. 98 Fish commenced operations on the 28th November 2012 and because of strong community demand started offering Cooked Seafood on the 4th July 2013.

Q. Where is your fresh seafood from?

A. The bulk of our fresh seafood is from right here in Queensland as well as the Northern Territory. We have a handful of products from around Australia, New Zealand, Japan and South Africa. Please feel comfortable asking exactly where a particular product is from, we pay close attention to which country and region they are caught in, how they are caught, how they are processed, and how they are transported.

Our chips are snap frozen and are made from Australian potatoes by an Australian Owned Family Company in the Gippsland region of Victoria.

Q. Are your Fish & Chips available Gluten Free?

A. Yes. We have a Gluten Free batter and crumb, and our grilled and chips are gluten free on request. Additionally we have four fryers dedicated to gluten free products and specific preparation and storage processes to avoid cross contamination. Q. Are your Fish & Chips made in store?

A. We make our own batter and use a crumb that is baked right here in Queensland. All of our cooked seafood is battered or crumbed by us – cooked to order – not taken out of a packet.

Q. What oil do you use to cook your Fish & Chips?

A. We use tallow, even though it is more expensive, because it is far less processed than the so called “heart healthy” oils that are actually often chemically extracted, bleached, deodorised and hydrogenated for commercial use (this includes oils such as Rice Bran, Canola and Sunflower). Besides that as a by-product it is more environmentally sustainable and we think it simply tastes better!

There is also recent research on whether the so called “heart healthy” oils are actually any more healthy than traditional, more natural products (and why people don’t seem to be getting leaner eating them!). You can read more here and here.

Q. Are your Fish & Chips Vegetarian / Egg Free / Gluten Free / Yeast Free / Nut Free?

Vegetarian: If you eat fish and dairy but do not wish to consume other animal products please avoid our Dim Sims and Chicken Nuggets as these products or their occasional substitutes may contain animal products.

Eggs: If you do not wish to consume egg please avoid our Crumb, Dim Sims, Chicken Nuggets, Spring Rolls and Seafood Sticks as these products or their occasional substitutes may contain egg.

Gluten: If you do not wish to consume Gluten please avoid our non-Gluten Free batter and Crumb, our Spring Rolls, Chicken Nuggets, and Seafood Sticks as these products or their occasional substitutes may contain Gluten.

Yeast: If you do not wish to consume yeast please avoid our crumb, Spring Rolls and Chicken Nuggets as these products or their occasional substitutes may contain Yeast.

Soy: If you do not wish to consume soy please avoid our Soy Sauce, Dim Sims, Spring Rolls and Chicken Nuggets as these products or their occasional substitutes may contain Soy.

Nuts: We do not use nuts or products containing nuts at 98 Fish.
